Be sure to upgrade the operating system to Mac OS X v10.3 (Panther), and do all the supplementary Software Updates, if it isn't set up that way already.
My recommendation would be to install all but one of the updates. I'm having some pretty annoying problems with 10.3.8.
On the other hand, I went whole hog and moved to 10.3.8 immediately after upgrading to Panther.
I'm normally very conservative and let 6 months to a year go by (!) before I try the next incantation of the O/S. But, throwing caution to the winds this time, I find 10.3.8 very benign for me!
I'm sure that whatever you do with your daily computer uses, you must tweak Panther in ways I don't, so you've found some glitch I may never see.
Up to now, I've found 10.3.8 stable and reliable.
Tiger? Moving to Panther from Jaguar was enough for a while. Even tho' the Panther move has been a pleasant experience, I find new operating systems have been coming out a little too often. It takes a while to wring out a new OS and learn all the little nooks and crannies, and become comfortable with it.
Right now, I don't see what Tiger could possibly offer me that I'd feel deprived if I didn't have it! <grin>

If you have to pay to get Panther, hold off as Tiger is due pretty soon and it'll cost you about the same amount.
