That way you avoid the problem of the slow USB1 connection altogether, though I agree that with a set of modern NiMHs you should have enough power for a hundred updates.

Rechargeable batteries once you buy them are essentially free just as is the electricity from an AC adapter. The Pentax AC adapter lists for about $100.00 you can get two sets of 2500mAh NiHM AA cells for with an 8 hour charger for about $20.00
Peter was talking about the *ist-D and the necessity of using the adapter when doing Firmwear updates. If that's all he's worried about, then a freshly charged set of rechargeable batteries makes a hell of a lot more sense. The chance of running out of battery power in the middle of the update is about as likely as a sudden power failure at the same time. Keith Whaley wrote:

Rechargeable.
"Rechargeable" is just a word, Peter. It imparts no useful information, as is.
What is it you are trying to say?

Thanks for the advice Keith,
it seems to be a good idea to use an AC-adapter then, and not just a sales argument from Pentax.

No, no! I'd consider an AC adapter an essential part of any battery-using camera kit!
Batteries are relatively expensive, and some of them quite costly!
AC essentially costs you nothing.
If you ever need to do any fussing around between camera and computer, some of which takes a lot of time, why waste batteries which you DO need for portable use?
