Frank, the only thing that jumps out at me is that I would prefer his left hand 
be further down the instrument & separated from his face. As it is now, it 
makes me think he's picking his nose!
I'd also like it better if there was no shadow.

Well, some of you may recall my trying to get some decent photos of my
friend's jazz combo, with mixed (or at least unexciting results).

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the same bar, armed only with an MX
(and therefore a flash on "auto" and no ttl flash capability). 
Keeping some comments in mind, and trying to get something other than
a mere "documentary" look to it all, I came up with this:

better?  worse?  at least going in the right direction?

If you didn't see the others, it might be valuable for me to hear how
it is as a "stand alone" shot, without reference to any prior
