I really don't think a lenses absolute resolution can be visualized though a
finder which incorporates a plastic stamped Fresnel lens and matt imaging
surface (which determines the absolute limitation of finder resolution). That
said I have noticed that the zoom diopter adjustment in the finder (which is of
course on the "other" side of the focus screen) can somehow distort focus if it
isn't set carefully.

Back to the discussion relating to popular perception. Lots of people have
indicated that they feel the the DA 16-45 is sharp wide open but some also said
the same about the DA14, FA24 and FA24-90. The later two lenses I have first
hand experience with, I've tested them formally and informally and don't
particularly care for either, the A24/2.8 beats them both optically at 24mm.

Personally I think you should trust your own tests (or other well documented
semi-formal test such as Josteins). I learned, I've been bummed in the past by
putting too much weight in buying decisions based on other peoples anecdotal
lens performance accounts.
