With Nikon, you really want to stay with lenses that are contemporaneous with the camera body.
With the F2s that I just bought, I also picked up a 50/1.4.
Unfortunately, it is a later version of the lens, and while it mounts and works perfectly, it is much smaller than what I recall the 50 I got with my original F2s.
The balance is wrong, and it doesn't look right on the camera either.
I'm lucky, later versions don't have the meter coupler prong, and don't allow open aperture metering.
It's even worse if you are trying to mount old glass on newer bodies, some won't mount at all, some will mount but the meter won't work, some will shut the camera down completely so that a picture cannot be taken.
I now have the "correct" 50/1.4 coming from a fellow in Japan.
Nikon's compatability issues are legendary.
