Mine were the energizer e2 titanium brand. I assumed that the titanium was marketing hype, but the only store open in the small Catskill town didn't have lithiums, so I figured I'd go with the shiniest, most expensive ones they did have. I just did a little reading and it seems they might actually be better than regular alkalines. Lithiums are a better deal, I think, but it is nice to know of another possible emergency option. I'll have to try some other brands as well. Duracell M3 are supposed to be super alkalines, also.

We do the same thing, except we number our sets. We must have at least 8 sets of four NiMHs. We have both a fast charger and an overnight charger that does more than just AAs. I've found that I can't use alkalines in the D. I got maybe 15 shots off a set the one time I had to use them. (Of course, they could have been bad batteries; I got them at a newsstand. :)
