well, i have the Big L and when i have the left side nearly touching the 
camera, the right end stick way out. this means it won't fit in any of my 
bags. blocking the battery door is just another annoyance. it's just sitting 
there for now.

that doesn't sound like the Kirk L bracket I have. Mine measures approx 4
7/8" X 3 1/4" ( smaller dimensions than the camera body). I mount it on my
*ist D with the leg on the LH side. Allows access to the  memory card but
does block the battery door.
