The latest video phones cost a couple of hundred (at most), and if you only want one that sends still photos, it's way less. And, if you get your phone with a service bundle as part of the deal, it's (apparent) price is quite a bit less. It's one thing to upgrade something of that price, especially if it's such a part of popular culture, and a "must have" item for one's peer group. DSLR's are an awful lot more than a couple of hundred, especially if one is upgrading from entry-level. Plus, there simply aren't the social pressures to get the latest and greatest features. cheers, frank -- "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." -Henri Cartier-Bresson
