The best way to get items from the US to Australia is via the US Postal
service not UPS or any other courier.

I just did a quick check on the USPS site (www.usps.com) and for a 40
pound package air freight it's US$173.  For surface it's US$68.40. 
This allows for a package upto 84 inches - Length plus girth (distance
around the thickest part).  

I'm not sure what the auto poles are, but I'm sure they should fit into
those dimensions and weight.
