Having gotten reasonable prices for the sale of my SMC Pentax-F 17-28mm f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye, and my SMC Pentax-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL, I found myself in the position today of justifying and affording the SMC Pentax-DA 16-45mm f/4 ED AL.

What a nice piece this lens is. By the time I got it today it was a little too late to put it through any paces... at least without the assistance of a sturdy tripod or flash. ;) But the build quality alone is what I've been missing with the majority of my other FA lenses.

I was a little surprised when it suddenly occurred to me that the lens is about 2.5 inches longer when pulled back to its wider angle end. I was playing with it for a few minutes, looking through the viewfinder, and suddenly it struck me. Strange!

I do have to admit, the hood seems mostly for show. It's pretty short, and broad, and doesn't really offer much glare-shelter to the lens.

Thanks to those here who provided comments and comparisons that helped me to rationalize this purchase.
