In my attempts to improve my RFS3600, I gained some limited contrast and
sharpness improvements by lining the interior of the front portion of the
light path (pre-lens) with some bits and black flocking previously removed
from the film path. While I didn't get complete coverage, it still helped
in scanning. So I decided to order about 8 sq ft (to have some extra for
lens hoods, pinhole cameras, etc.) of low-pile acrylic felt, 0.030"
thickness, self adhesive from http://www.mcmaster.com/. The product number
(88015K73) came recommended on a site for flocking the interior of home made
telescopes for reduction of light reflections. That was currently out of
stock, but they replaced it with 45" wide material (as opposed to the
original 48" wide).

Does anyone have any experience with this particular material? Are there
other sources for black flocking/felt that people have used or recommend?

My plan is to line the complete light path from the mirror back to the CCD,
and use some to hold the edges (sprocket hole area only) of the film in the
light path, in order to achieve or more consistent vertical placement of the
film for better focusing repeatability (the current holder guides alone
leave a little too much slop in the film's vertical positioning, and can
sometimes allow the film to not sit entirely flat).

Thanks,
Gerald
