Basically yes, but:

1) I don't like the results from Adobe Raw Converter (perhaps the next
version in CS 2 will be better?)

Curious: what don't you like about them?

2) I would like to apply the settings globally to a set of photos,
just like one applies e.g. the WB setting or the levels setting to a
group of photos in RSE or C1.

Easily done in PSCS/ACR as well.
