For the purposes of the equipment comparison, I believe that it would be
helpful to compare Canon unprocessed raw files to  Pentax unprocessed raw
files that are shot in the same conditions. If they look the same then you
should start looking at your processing methods. If the Canon raw image is
better than the Pentax raw image then you can start questioning your
technique and your equipment.

Perhaps one should also consider the difference in sensor mask.
Each company uses a different mask for moire control.
A local camera shop make a clear statement to me that every
series of Canon produces a different image characteristic.
