I'd say it bears about as much resemblance to the radio broadcasts, the books, or the TV series as any one of those does to any other; Douglas Adams was an inveterate re-writer, always changing things. The movie feels much more like late Douglas Adams (after the fifth book in the trilogy) - still mostly manic, but with an occasional diversion into serious asides.
