I'd say it bears about as much resemblance to the radio broadcasts,
the books, or the TV series as any one of those does to any other;
Douglas Adams was an inveterate re-writer, always changing things.

The movie feels much more like late Douglas Adams (after the fifth
book in the trilogy) - still mostly manic, but with an occasional
diversion into serious asides.
