According to Bojidar, the MX was made circa 1976-1985.
The Nikkormat FT3 was the predecessor to the Nikon FM and was sold concurrently from 1977-1979. The Nikon FM was a thorough redesign, introduced in 1977 (after the FE model) although it used a similar shutter: smaller, lighter, handier. The Pentax MX is a little lighter and smaller than an FM, a LOT lighter and smaller than an FT3.
The FM is still in production today, if you count the the successor FM2, FM2n and FM3a models in the line. The FM3a is, in my opinion, the last of that great mechanical Nikon line... The original FM model was manufactured from 1977-1983, then replaced by the FM2.
