DNG is pixel-depth neutral. It works with 8-bit sensor values (such as from many point-and-shoot digitals), 12-bit values (most of the DSLRs in use today), and 14-bit or 16-bit values from high-end equipment. It would even work with 32-bit sensors, if any were around.
