yes, but what if it is not? also, the dynamic range available when shooting in RAW and converting with the Adobe Camera RAW is about 0.5 to 1 stop more than the RAW conversion from the included software. the Canon should have a touch more dynamic range than typical slide film. getting another half stop is useful.
