Carlos, I'll look at the Service Manual to see what the next step would be. (Since you're an experienced Pentax tech now.) ;-)
This has been a significant feat for me. I usually don't dare to do anything to my cameras or lenses, for fear of destroying them. I am not very confident about my skills ;-) for good reason.
I do have one question though, pardon me if it's a dumb question. (I don't know how experienced you are with cameras.) Are you aware that the 360FGZ is NOT meant for older cameras? It has an "Auto" mode that might work on them but this is the only mode that might. The other modes are meant for digital communication with the camera body. The Vivitar 285 should work on the MX's fine though.
The AF 360 FGZ is quite a flexible flash. It does P-TTL and also plain TTL, but it also has an Auto mode, which works well with old or new cameras, and a manual mode too. It works well with the MX. As you say, the old trusty Vivitar 285 works fine on the MX.
I'll get back to you when I've looked at my (poorly copied) manual.
Thank you very much, Don Carlos
