To the PDML family, who can put up with my ramblings,

Yesterday morning we had a coworker who was retiring as a Major in the US Air Force, after 20 years of service. I took available-light photos using a monopod and the FA* 200/2.8 from the back. The lighting stunk in the auditorium. The official photographer was using a flash with the Nikon D1X. Of course she was working from the front. I have yet to go through them all, but I will probably try to convert to b&w to hide the poor lighting...

Every so often as I got ready for the shot I was wondering if I would end up with her flash in my photo. I was shooting in manual mode. There were two instances that it occured. Of course it washed out my shot :-( I should have gone up to complain to her, she is a friend and would have chuckled about it.

From there we had a farewell luncheon for him and his family at a beach-side restaurant. Since they are headed to the arid west they wanted to make sure they took advantage of the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico one last time. I took photos a plenty documenting all the presentations and documenting all the people who showed up to say goodbye. There was even another group from the Air Force doing some presentations. They were in uniform, we were not, and they actually did the presentation on the beach. We were in the dining area, with a keg, on the beach.

This was a good way to start the 'weekend' as I began my eight-hour drive to south Florida. I figured I would use it as a dry run for my drive to Grandfather Mountain next week.

Before sitting down to catch up with the backlog of emails I went out on a mountain bike for a ride. Ten minutes into the ride I was at Hollywood Beach. I posted some images shot with the Optio S at http://groups.msn.com/CesarsPhotography/memorialdayweekend.msnw I at least waited until some of you were already into your weekend before posting this message :-)

There is a picnic at the park and boating on a lake planned for the weekend. I have my *ist D, 645n, and 67 at the ready. I may have some time to post some images along the way.

Figuring I have to add to the list traffic somehow, now to catch up with the list,
