Perhaps you missed my message yesterday.  After you suggested the FX
filters I checked the Tiffen site, discovered the Pro Mist, and bought one
(Pro Mist) at the local camera shop I so dearly enjoy patronizing.  So,
Thanks for the pointer!  

BTW, I remembered the stocking thing after the original post as well. 
IIRC, different colored stockings should yield somewhat different effects.
