It depends, 20% of what. I might spend $1200 at a local store instead of
$1000 mail order. Spending $2400 vs. $2000, or $3600 vs. $3000 is a
different story and I need to start asking why. As the numbers add up I can
buy a whole new/extra lens for the price difference.
I definitely don't mind spending extra for the convenience to get filters,
tripod parts, film, accesories, from a mom & pop, as I may need the items on
the spur of the moment.

Don't shop at a "great local store" and it will soon go out of business, at
which point you may complain that you've lost a great local store. 20%
doesn't strike me as "way too high" if you're getting the goods and service
you want.
