Well, both my 512MB Toshiba cards did work well enough. I did the upgrade to 1.12. Then after a while 1 went "not formated" and then the second one.
I can format as I want with my card reader, no problem. If I connect the D to the PC I can't access the card (of course it is supposed not to be formated) but I CAN'T format from there. Progress bar goes as usual and then something like "Windows couldn't format the drive".
