Alim. 
You are partly right about this, but not quite. If you scroll up in the
menu, the first selection is, flash compensation (two clicks), next is focus
point (three clicks), and then meter mode (four clicks). I suggest you have
another look if this really is your main reasons to stay away from this body
:-)

In a perfect world (for me) the first selection when going down should be
quality level. 

What I do miss at the Ds is being able to customize the Fn button. Besides
this I find the Ds pretty good when it comes to ergonomics. 

You also make a point out keeping your night vision intact while working.
Basically I agree. But the Ds allow you to turn down the brightness of the
screen. This helps a bit.
