I'd bet it's a consumer confidence thing -- people bidding with the
mentality "I can afford that much". Such a mentality could account for the
ridiculously high prices on things we've seen in the past as well as prices
slacking off when they didn't feel they could afford such high prices
anymore.
Whatever the reason.. sounds like it's a bit of a buyers market out there
now :-)
