Older all mechanical Pentax SLRs are indestructible to a point. Since
the K1000 has only been out of production for 4 years and still available
new in some markets, it still is a viable option. I found 2 over the last 2
months including a pristine all metal 1977 model and a "like new" Hong Kong
edition for less than 100 US. I kept the 77 model and traded the other
straight across for a equally pristine MX. The dealer did not know what he
had Either of these cameras will outlast MZ-M/ZX-M cameras IMHO.
As a member of the "old school" (my kids say "real old school) and
having had both the SFX-1n and PZ-1p. I still prefer a old mechanical SLR.
