Are you sure about that?  I know it started to happen with most of the Japanese 
manufacturers but was under the impression that they stopped due to excessive 
wear.  Or excessive servicing costs.  Oil changes every 2000 miles, with 
complete set of filters can add up sharpish.  But, then, many (most) machines 
do very low mileage these days.
