No, it's not, although that can be a part of it in ~some~ cases. Actually, what I think you're referring to is the flare one sometimes sees around highlights. Neither the camera nor the film knows just what in the frame is the "subject." There's another, more difficult to define, imo, glow, that comes about when using lenses with certain characteristics and working with the light a certain way. Older lenses have some of these characteristics. shel
