With less contact to the atmosphere it would probably take longer...

Great to know ;-)) Might there be a greater variety of screens available
using the LX screens in an MX.
If a screen was purchased new and kept in its case, never having been
installed in a camera, would it eventually yellow and lose brightness?

The last glass focusing screens seen in Pentax cameras were employed in
K-series cameras, including the early K1000.
After that, all Pentax 35mm SLR cameras since 1976 use plastic screens,
including most of K1000, the MX and the LX.
I don't know about MF.
A rather known trick for improving the brightness of the MX viewfinder is
replacing its original screen with one for the PZ1 or MZ-S. This
increases
brightness not only because the newer screens are brighter than the older
ones by their technology, but also because the old plastic screens of the
MX
have yellowed and lost part of their original transparency over the years.
