Ok, I started what I thought that was an innocent
thread and almost becomes my first flame war as a
warrior...let's see if I can reach it with my
conclusions ;-)
Several of you agreed that, yes, the price is too
close to the Ds one, but that's because tekade.de
shows it at list price, and that it will fall in
several weeks due to increasing availability and
competition.
On the other hand, there was the interesting 30EUR
issue. Is this a too small difference for 2
around-700EUR-cameras as I said? or it was only, as
Shel said:
"your standards and those in your socio-economic
group"
and some people, with small enough budgets, would
appreciate this 30EUR less and this way, afford the
item?
First I thought that it was an unfair comment, even
rude. But, thinking again, maybe it wasn't.
Yes, in my standards it is crazy and irresponsible to
spend 700 EUR in a sophisticated digital camera (a
luxury item) when your budget is so narrow that 30EUR
will make a difference between buying it or not. But
it is true, those are my standards and I should not
judge other's.
Now, my conclusion is that this thread is just a sign
that we (in Spain) have made a great progress in the
consumerism way, but there is still a lot of room for
improvement. We will arrive to a point where we will
spend 700EUR in absolutely superfluous items, but not
730, because this may ruin the family economy.
(and please, I am not trying to attack any country or
similar, it is just the way it is)
(1 EUR = 1 US$ in practical terms, although todays
exchange rate is 1,2 $ per EUR)
