Also, one of the disadvantages of using a mirror lens (the hOrrible bOkeh dOnuts) ~mostly~ goes away - you're not likely to notice 'em with the sky as a backdrop (the usual background, unless the planes are down nearer the horizon). One of the ubiquitous 500/8 mirrors makes for a lightweight, easy-to-hand-hold air show lens (assuming that the light is bright enough to keep the shutter speeds up) (and assuming you're not trying to do this on Kodachrome-25 - <g>).
