My first K2 had a very stiff MLU mechanism exactly as you describe. I
actually thought it was normal until I bought a second one, which had worked
better.
I never had it repaired because I assumed it would be expensive, and
eventually sold the body.
Sorry I'm not much help, but now you know that someone else has had the
same problem :)
