Sigma optics are usually compatible with bodies available at the time
the lens is out.
But older or newer bodies often have problems.

I think this is more of a problem with Canon.

I find it very hard to direct the blame for Sigma malfunctions to Canon.

- All Canon brand EOS lenses work flawlessly on all EOS bodies, regardless of their age.

- Sigma does not license the EOS mount specification and reverse engineers it instead, ostensibly to save money.

- Sigma's quality control is extremely variable, evidenced by my own personal experience and by the experience of a major and well respected dealer in my neighborhood. The fact that Canon's lenses work on all Canon bodies, regardless of age, generally indicates a high quality acceptance testing program, which is exactly what Sigma cuts corners on to offer low prices.

- Problems have been experienced by more than just Canon users with Sigma lenses. I had problems with them on Minolta and Nikon bodies. I was already disgusted with them before I owned Canon EOS gear.

My experience with Sigma lenses has been such that I will never even try one again, regardless of how many people tell me what a great Sigma lens they have.
