Hi David ...

I'd been thinking about a used Canon as well, but that was just a passing
thought - too big and heavy for my taste and it would need more of an
investment in lenses than I'm willing or able to make at this point.

Considering the current price on the Ds, and that, while many of the
features on the D are desirable, I'm leaning strongly towards the Ds at
this point. My reasoning is that the digi won't be replacing film, nor
will it even be my main camera - just one of several different bodies to
use as the need or mood arises. The camera would essentially be an upgrade
replacement for the Sony that I've been using, so it would provide a big
step up at a reasonable cost. The bigger faster buffer is of interest, and
Godfrey or John showed me a neat feature or two that the Ds had that the D
didn't, and I recall thinking how neat that was, and that it would fit into
my shooting style rather nicely. I don't recall the feature now <g> but,
were I to get the Ds it would become apparent.

The somewhat smaller size of the Ds is a plus as well, and I've no
investment in CF cards to protect - don't even need to get a new card
reader. I've gone out photographing with a couple of people on the list
who use the Ds, and seen that it was just as simple for them to use the
manual focus glass on their cameras is it was to use the same lenses on the
D, so that's a non-issue for me.

The bottom line at this point is that the feature set on the Ds is more
than adequate for me at this time, although the feature set on the D may
allow more flexibility later should my needs change. But by that time I'd
expect at least one more generation of a Pentax DSLR.

Thanks for asking ;-))
