Are you sure the Z-series use distance info for focusing? I don't really know; it was 
just a theory.
In addition, the front lens tube on my 600/4 is "loose". The three screws holding it 
is apparently broken possibly due to the endles jamming and consequent wriggling of 
the incredibly stupid threaded lens hood. 
Anyway, my theory is that the camera do get distance information but get wrong 
information because the lens is out of alignment. If its not the lens then it must be 
the camera.....
