HI,

I am no lens expert either, so I try not to say much on this, but from what
I understand, KM system works "irrespective" of the lens attached to the
camera. Now, I do not know what sort of lens lineup they have or which lens
has a chip inside etc. However, I am not quite sure if the in-camera system
needs focal length info or any such. If they do, Pentax might probably try
to circumvent such requirement so that it will work on all K-mount lenses.
KM system has vector sensors in two axis and transmit the deviation to some
sort of Piezo drivers which physically move CCD sensor. Perhaps at this
stage, it has to know the focal length etc, but is it done only by a
built-in (lens) chip?

Perhaps, their site might tell how it works but beyond that, I refrain
myself :-). Perhaps some experts here who spent some time in digging the
IS/AS system might be qualified to answer.

My remark that "all K lenses" suddenly become IS lenses was uttered out of a
bit of excitement for the prospect of Pentax (finally) coming out of IS.

BTW, IS has been used for years by Video camera makers, although somewhat
differently, and the rumours of Oly seeking for the assistance by Panasonic
is rampant.

I feel pretty sure that all major DSLR makers will come up with some form of
IS/AS fairly soon, but I am no "pro" with any privileged info :-).

Cheers,

Ken
