I learned fairly fast that low contrast lighting isn't its strong point, and if you're shooting several people moving independently, it has no brains at all for deciding what to focus on. But after all, it's a computer, so one must expect it to make weird decisions when unprompted. Last week was manual focusing for close-ish photos of a large wooden bowl. That was definitely time to put a contrasty marker into the field of view, about one-third of the way through the required DoF, focus manually, then lift out the marker and fire the shutter with the remote control. -- PDML means I get more e-mail than spam!
