The Pentax subtractive NR should only degrade the image where the image has hot/stuck pixels, it shouldn't alter the overall noise pattern as it appears to only affect pixels over a certain threshold. So if anyone is seeing overall image degradation with NR on then I assume that the camera is faulty. Pattern NR in post processing does reduce sharpness.
