I have that same lens, and it's been to the shop several times for aperture problems. I love the lens, but it seems not that durable - mind you, it's only like a 25 year old lens, and I do tend to bang it around a lot. My VS1 70-210 which I got used about 18 months ago looks like it's been put through the spin cycle - scratches, dings and paint worn off all over - yet it performs great.
