Maybe collect cameras for their fasination, and carry only one to make pictures
with?

A smiley thought. Remember when amateur camera meant one that did not
have all three of those controls? Now it means one that has hundreds
(or so it seems) of unnecessary controls.
I do find it ironic that in order to be a photographer these days, you
need to know more about how to operate a camera than you need to know
about photography.

When I think of how many most excellent photos I recorded with my Retina
I folder ~ my very first serious camera! As little more than a kid!
And so many other very rudimentary follow-on cameras...and I had very
good luck with them. Photo images far superior my skill level, now that
I look back on them.
And today I do NOT get the same spontaneity in my shots as I had back then.
Of course, I am what has changed...
Back then, as I recall it, I was only interested in capturing images. I
used what I had, no matter what it was, and did the best job I could.
I had a great desire to record images.
Not to "take photos..."
I think I might be over-saturated by my equipment. I think I ought to
keep say four cameras only.
Two digital, two 35mm, and only the best lenses that fit each, and put
the rest up for sale.
Boy, I read that and know it's true, but then...what about my 6X6
folder? Keep it?
My beautiful little 4X4 TLR? Keep it?
A real dilemma... separating being a collector from image recording as a
photographer.
Thanks for bringing it to a head.
I've got some thinking to do.
