I could never get excited about DOF review, because my eyes would accommodate so well (I guess) I found it hard to tell where the demarcation was between IN and OUT of focus. Of course, there is no such sharp line, but...using the lens aperture-closing feature to determine if something was not quite in focus, well, it just never worked for me.

I use my viewfinder's split image or microprism to obtain focus, and estimate what will be in acceptable focus front and rear based on the lens aperture ring data, at any given setting.
