Do the newer hex-plates actually grip properly? Mine are the old cork ones and they were hopeless. Any twisting force would cause the camera or lens to loosen. My 6x7 and my bigger lenses have a second hole so I ended up putting an M4 screw through the plate. The screw protrudes into the hole and stops the twisting.

The cork is pretty dumb. I haven't fixed mine yet, but gluing a thin piece of rubber on in place of the cork, such as that from a motorcycle inner tube seems to be the cure.
