It all depends how much photography you intend to be doing. A 1G card
will hold about 97 PEF files on average, or about 450 JPEG *** files.
If you have two 512M cards and are content with JPEG ***, you'll be
able to store with no other equipment about 450 JPEG *** images.
I went on the road for three weeks with the DS. I carried 5x 1G SD
cards and an Epson P2000 storage tank/media viewer (40G capacity),
and stored all my exposures in RAW format. I returned home with 2800
images, about 26-27Gbytes worth.
Fast 1G SD cards from several makers are available for about $70
apiece. I'd buy two in addition to what you have and not worry about
it, unless you want to work in RAW format or intend to shoot a lot more.
Regards power ... I carried 5 sets of Everready AA Lithium
disposables. No recharging necessary, light, 1300 exposures per set:
I hadn't exhausted the third set by the time I arrived home with 2800
exposures.

My apologies if this one has been discussed to any degree before,
but....
As mentioned before, I'm getting ready for a trip to Newfoundland in
the next couple of weeks. This will be my first trip with the DS, and
it got me thinking.
All my previous trips have had a slide-based photography based. Easy.
Carry 15 or so rolls, and buy more when required.
With Digital, what is the best plan? I currently have two 512M SD
cards (shooting JPEG-best), and no Laptop. I was planning on taking
the card to a local camera store to copy from card to CD when one is
full, and rotate through the cards. My concern is that I'll be running
out of card space with no facilities nearby.
What do you do recommend? Should I be thinking about a third card?
(I'll still be taking the Z1, and a couple of rolls of slide film
as backup).
