I think that's pretty much the true story.  I also heard from Pentax that FA
lenses (at least some of them) were initially designed as water proof (or
splash proof, probably) ones.
But the most visible proof that Z-1p was intended as a pro-spec camera was
the infamous hollow vertical grip which does not accommodate batteries.
It was intended as a battery grip, but the idea was dropped before the
camera was released and only the shell remained.  What a shame.
If you ever wonder why Pentax made such a strange hollow grip which serves
nothing more than a grip, that's why.
