Thanks, Rob ... I was thinking to just xfer the files for storage. There'd be no need to frequently access them. In fact, depending on which files would be stored, the external drive wouldn't even need to be connected to the 'puter except for the times a particular file was needed. And, if left connected, I think I could use the "no spin" option so that the drive wouldn't even rotate unless it was called upon to access a file. IOW, it would be just like a file cabinet of sorts, sitting there passively unless required to be accessed. Shel
