Thank you to all who replied, and for the welcome to the mailing list. Having carefully read all the replies I received, I now intend to buy an *ist D body, probably one of a small supply of new bodies that are still available.
Reasons? The two control dials sold me on the D versus the DS. The pentamirror means I would probably not consider buying a DL, even if it was the only Pentax DSLR available.
