Hi!
Are the rechargeable CR-V3 batteries lithium? Are they as long lasting
(or nearly so) as the non-rechargeable type? I noticed that they're
specifically not recommended in the manual for the *ist-DS. Has anyone
out there tried them, and to what level of success?
I don't shoot rapid sequences, no more than 2 shots or may be 3 shots of
auto-bracketing...
At this trip to London I had with me two sets of AA NIMHs and one set of
non-rechargeable CR-V3s... Fortunately in the hotel they had socket that
would accept my charger. Otherwise, I think that if you'd have two sets
of 2500 MAh NIMHs you would be fine. Mine are 2000 and 2300...
Now, I had to do a lot of chimping because I was limited with the
storage - just 4 1Gb cards... Without chimping I could get 200 or so
shots from 2300 MAh set which is equals to roughly 3 1Gb cards... Hence
my conclusion that higher capacity batteries are not *absolutely*
necessary though it would be nice.
YMMV of course.
Now I'll have to figure out which lenses and gear to lug around with me
too:
SMC Pentax-DA 16-45mm f/4 AL: Can't do without it.
SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.4: Won't leave home without it.
SMC Pentax-FA 28-105mm f/3.2-4.5: Shouldn't leave home without it.
SMC Pentax-FA 135mm f/2.8: Too nice to leave home.
SMC Pentax-FA 80-320mm f/4.5-5.6: Never know when I'll need it.
For coverage 16-45 and 80-320 would be nice. For absolute quality 50 and
135 lenses should be taken... I think reasonable and light compromise is
16-45, 50, and 135... This is what I would've taken if I had 16-45 and
decent 135 mm lens... But I am so darn standard lens guy, so don't take
my words too seriously :-).
HTH.
