I don't think they're worth skipping meals to scrape the money together. If you have the $$$ readily available and nothing else to spend it on then by all means go for it.

The Cadillac of medium format projectors is probably the Hasselblad ones but they're ~ $1500. Rollei and Kindermann also made some of recent vintage. There are also some older ones available.
