It seems I've been getting better battery life than most people so I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

I've been using two rechargeable Li-Ion CRV3s in my *ist D and I get between 1600 and 2000 shots on a charge. They're made by Lenmar and are rated at 1350mAh. It takes about 2 hours to charge them with the included chargers. I bought them about a year ago at Fry's Electronics for $68 (each charger and battery set cost me $29) but they don't seem to list them on their website so they might be a in store only thing. Here's a link to their web page about the battery: http://tinyurl.com/bjo4x. Planet Battery has them for $34: http://tinyurl.com/dcpeq

I don't review my images in the camera much (but I do use the instant review feature) and I mostly use an external flash (although I do use wireless a lot) so that most likely has an effect on battery performance.

The price is pretty steep when compared to non rechargeable options but I can shoot up to 1500 images in a day so with $10 for a pack for non rechargeables the cost is offset very quickly.
Hope that helps some

Subject say it all. What are YOU using, what works well, what doesn't?
What sort of battery life are you getting, and under what conditions?
Will the camera work on household electricity with a converter of some sort?
