I have the feeling that the MZ-S would do a lot better than the Z-1p. One
major reason the Z-1p failed (imo) is that it wasn't unique in any way. It's
bulky, it's AF is primitive, it's plastic, and ??? If there is one thing
special about the Z-1p, it will be the hyper-modes. Unfortunately, very few
non-Z-1p owners had any idea what hyper-modes were. Let alone buying Z-1p
for that reason. Also, when the Z/PZ series were introduced, the F/FA lens
line-up was not very attractive. And Pentax themselves proved unique
designs did sell - MZ/ZX series. MZ/ZX bodies are neither advance nor
duriable, but their compact and retro designs caught the eyes of the public.
And for those who liked the MZ/ZX ideas, but wanted something more
"quality", the MZ-S is the natural choice. The MZ-S becomes more attractive
when matched with the Limited lenses. For these reasons, I don't see the
MZ-S will suffer the same fate as the Z-1p did. At least the MZ-S is unique,
the Z-1p isn't.

I don't think Pentax has ever been no.1. However, the Spotmatic series were
a huge success, so to the M series.
