When I originally learned that the package was going to be delivered

This is the third or fourth time I've had delivery problems with FedEx.
What a bunch of sphincters!
Fedex can be really bad at times. The worst they ever did to me was to
leave a box with $ 15,000 worth of Rollei 6008 gear on my front porch
when I was on vacation. I had told them in writing to hold all
deliveries for that two week period. When I returned from vacation
there was nothing on the front porch, and I didn't know that the Rollei
distributor had even shipped me the stuff (loan for editorial review).
I only found out about it some months later when they asked when I was
planning on returning the equipment. Fedex claimed they had my
signature, and it was only after I proved that I was on the other side
of the USA at the time and brought a lawyer into the picture that they
backed down and admitted what had happened.
I've found for my own shipping needs that the good old USPS is best
most of the time. Yes, they mess up sometimes, but they will make it
right if you insure shipments and keep your paperwork. Earlier this
year a shipment to Australia was supposed to take four or five days and
ended up taking two months. They admitted fault, that it had gone by
sea instead of air, and refunded my postage without me even asking.
